almost all iphone and ipod speakers look ugggly black or white. this speaker system, from pottery barn teen of all places, comes in five cute colors and has a nice look. i might get them soon and i’ll report back how they sound. i’d like to completely replace my alarm clock with something like this. i hope the alarm sound comes out loudly through the speakers when docked. stack your speakers for iphone and ipod at pottery barn teen ($129).

earphones never last long. after trying many different brands at many different prices i’ve learned that it’s not worth spending much money on them since they’ll stop working in a few months anyway. but, super-cheap earphones aren’t great quality and they’re usually ugly white, black, or silver. griffin’s tunebuds are a nice alternative — you can get a pack of 5 cute colors for $40 and they look like decent quality. griffin’s tunebuds (color) (1 for $20 or 5 for $40).

um, so i bought completely different gray jeans and bunny necklace than i tumbled about yesterday. this one is even cuter and is half the price! i found it on shanalogic but they were sold out so i bought it on marmar’s wonderful etsy store. i’m sure i’ll be back someday. bunny wishes charm necklace by marmar at etsy ($26).

okay, okay. i didn’t get the delia’s jeans and upgraded to these awesome jeans by j brand. these look like almost the perfect jeans for me except maybe the rise is a little too low and the flare a little too big, but i like this style too. these are the most expensive jeans i’ve ever bought but got a nice 15% off through retailmenot.com. j brand lovestory charcoal bellbottom flare jeans at active endeavors ($125).

boot cut jeans will always be my love but skinny jeans are great as long as they’re not super-skinny. gray is a great color for jeans and this tone is almost perfect. delia’s has consistently cute stuff and it’s wonderful how they list the length of all their clothes. they just opened their first retail store in washington state and i want to check it out as soon as someone wants to drive me. morgan low-rise skinny gray jeans at delia’s ($49.50).

i’m not usually into necklaces, but i want to change that....

i love cute little stuffed animals. shanalogic is a great little online indie boutique and run by the same great lady who runs the awesome desktop-graphic site pixelgirlpresents. you can find great cute indie finds on etsy or ebay or by googling all around but it’s awesome when places like shanalogic do the work for you. they sell out of really cute items very fast so i’m going to have to buy this bunny asap… mashmallow bunny plush by mymimi at shanalogic.

i love that converse keeps coming up with new styles. by far the best place to get converse is good old zappos, which has more styles than anywhere as far as i know. there are so many styles it blows my mind. i could spend a billion dollars just on converse there. pictured is the “light” version that has a pretty cute shape. charcoal/light blue converse all-star light ox from zappos ($42).

toms shoes are trendy loafer/slip-on shoes made by a guy who was on the amazing race (reality show). they haven’t reached annoying mainstream crocs/tevas/keens/uggs trendcentral yet, but it looks like that’s their monosyllabic aim. i think they’re a really cute alternative to canvas or leather loafers like vans. cindy from true north style really sold me on them with her cute posts. the only problem so far is that the styles on the toms site are mostly ugly, but i found some cute styles on revolve clothing’s web site (make sure to check retailmenot.com for discounts). cobalt blue suede toms by toms shoes ($71).

seattle is starting a grocery bag tax so i’m going to start using totes most of the time. there are actually really cute and comfy ones, better than paper or plastic! i saw a girl using one of alg’s bags and they are sooo cute and sassy. i hate meat eaters canvas bag by angry little girls ($25).

miracle fruit: OVERRATED!!

i’m mad at internet. i had some miracle berries over the weekend. after reading the new york times article about miracle berries (or miracle fruit), and the wikipedia entry, and a bunch of random blogs, i was really reaaaally excited about trying them. here are some quotes i found on internet:

The berry rewires the way the palate perceives sour flavors for an hour or so, rendering lemons as sweet as candy.

“CARRIE DASHOW dropped a large dollop of lemon sorbet into a glass of Guinness, stirred, drank and proclaimed that it tasted like a “chocolate shake.””

“Nearby, Yuka Yoneda tilted her head back as her boyfriend, Albert Yuen, drizzled Tabasco sauce onto her tongue. She swallowed and considered the flavor: “Doughnut glaze, hot doughnut glaze!””

“A large group of guests reached its own consensus: limes were candied, vinegar resembled apple juice, goat cheese tasted like cheesecake on the tongue and goat cheese on the throat. Bananas were just bananas.”

“… after eating [miracle fruit] stout beers taste like chocolate milkshakes, grapefruits taste like pixie sticks, cheeses taste like frosting, it will make even the crappiest tequila taste like lemonade (and strangely enough, it will make all wine taste like Manischewitz).”

so, as you can see, i was ready for the most magical nite of my life. beer that tastes like chocolate milkshakes?!? tequila that tastes like lemonade?!?!? limes that taste like… i don’t care, i only care about the first two. the internet seemed agreed about this effect so i don’t understand why society hasn’t collapsed with people drinking lemonade-tasting tequila.

i bought 10 tablets (made from the real fruit) off ebay (about $20 with shipping). i waited by the mailbox eagerly for about 6 days straight, until they finally arrived via certified mail. i sent out a txt/phone/myspace barrage to get everyone in the world to come over and try my awesome miracle berries.

3 of my friends showed up, and we tried them. i bought about $120 worth of food and liquor (YIKES?!) to try. the tablets slowly dissolve on your tongue and taste like cherry cough medicine coating your mouth. once they were done, we tried some berries and cheeses. the berries were very sweet but DELICIOUS! the best berries we’d ever had, probably. the cheeses were more subtle, with kind of a bland creamy flavor.

it didn’t take long before i cracked open my varieties of beer — including a few disgusting stouts (like guinness) to try. chocolate milkshake, here we come, right?!? WRONG! they tasted nothing like a chocolate shake — even my “double chocolate stout.” they tasted like cloyingly sweet beer. awful. tequila was even worse, and whoever said that cheap tequila tasted like lemonade must have been huffing gas instead of miracle berries. it tasted like cheaper tequila. the cider was worst of all, magnifying the sweetness to kids-cereal magnitudes.

the worst part of the miracle fruits was that the sweet taste wouldn’t go away!!! it sticks in your mouth for a good two hours. new foods taste somewhat normal after one hour, but i had a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the night. ALSO, i ate an entire lemon, which i could never do, and my mouth felt burnt up by acid, which it was.

the coolest thing about the miracle berries is it really DOES eliminate sour tastes (but not so much with bitter tastes). lemons taste like oranges and you can eat one in seconds (but i still felt the acidity). sour gummi worms taste like normal gummi worms. etc etc bla bla cool huh?

i’m glad i tried miracle berries once but i don’t think i’ll ever try them again. they’re kind of like salvia in that way, even though salvia is much more bizarre and strong. i recommend you try them once, just don’t have sky-high expectations like i did.

i give miracle berries a rating of 2 miracle berries out of 5 miracle berries. ^__^
